Add Excitement to ANY Meat Dish with Mushrooms!
Do you get tired of the same old steak and potatoes, or hamburgers on the grill? Although we enjoy those dishes once in a while, I do like to spice things up sometimes with a different preparation.
Enter mushroom saute!
It’s a super quick and easy way to change the taste of a typical steak or hamburger dinner – and thanks to the many benefits of mushrooms, it’s good for you too! Plus, with adding the heartiness of the mushrooms, you can reduce the amount of meat you are eating! Win-win.
Mushroom saute
1 pint baby bella mushrooms (organic preferably), sliced
1/2 yellow onion, sliced
2 garlic cloves, minced
extra virgin olive oil
1/2 T. butter
sea salt
freshly cracked pepper
Step one: Heat the olive oil and butter in a cast iron (or regular) skillet at medium heat. Add garlic and onions and saute until garlic is fragrant, and onions start to brown.
Step two: Add mushrooms and saute until cooked, but still tender (you want to be careful not to get them mushy).
Step three: Season with salt and pepper and serve over steak, hamburger or really any other meat. Also delicious over baked or mashed potatoes (sweet or white).
This is a great way to reduce your carb intake – I prefer my hamburgers with tons of mushrooms on top instead of on a bun! Have leftovers? Add them to your omelet or to some pasta and veggies for an easy meal tomorrow!
