Boyne Mountain Grand Lodge Overview

Whether you are visiting Boyne Mountain in the winter to ski or in the summer to play golf, learn all about Boyne Mountain Grand Lodge to help you decide if it’s the best place to stay (spoiler: it is!!!).

Why should you stay at Boyne Mountain Grand Lodge?

The BEST reason to stay at Boyne Mountain Grand Lodge is the location. It’s right in the middle of everything and has everything you’ll need for a fantastic stay within walking distance.

Indoor waterpark Avalanche Bay is attached

Summer or winter, Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark is a fun activity for the whole family. With multiple waterslides, several roomy hot tubs, a couple of pools, AND a lazy river, it’s a terrific option if the weather isn’t ideal for outdoor fun.

Admission to the waterpark isn’t included with your stay, but often you can get a small discount by staying onsite at the Boyne Mountain Grand Lodge or even looking for a stay-and-play package which is often offered off-season.

The BEST part of enjoying the waterpark while staying at the Grand Mountain Lodge is that you can walk back to your room indoors. The weather is irrelevant!

Boyne Mountain Grand Lodge Spa

Another fun “extra” at the Boyne Mountain Grand Lodge is the Spa at Boyne Mountain. This full-service spa offers all kinds of fun experiences, from massages to manicures, facials, and more. There are even exercise classes you can participate in.

Even if you don’t want to indulge in a spa treatment, you can still purchase a day pass which allows you time to enjoy the relaxation areas, and whirlpools and just chill.

Morning coffee at Das Cafe

When I’m on vacation, one of the first things I do is search out a coffee shop – if there is one in the hotel or nearby, it becomes part of my vacation routine.

Luckily, when we stay at the Boyne Mountain Grand Lodge, there is a little coffee shop inside on the first floor! My routine is usually to do a quick workout in the gym and then grab an Americano on my way back to the room. Sometimes I even stop to sit down and check my email and enjoy my coffee in peace if it’s really early in the morning.

Das Cafe also offers simple snacks, breakfast items, and bottled drinks. It’s a to-go spot, but there are a few tables outside if you’d like to sit and sip your coffee (like I do!).

🌟 Insider tip: Check the hours if you are craving coffee in the evening as it isn’t open late during the week.

Fitness Facility

Even if you decide not to indulge in a treatment at The Spa at Boyne Mountain, you can still use the nicely equipped exercise room when you stay at the Grand Mountain Lodge.

With plenty of treadmills, bicycles, weights, and more, it’s a large open room with a lovely view of the village and mountain. I actually enjoy walking on the treadmill each morning and watching the village area wake up and the ski runs getting ready to roll!

Indoor/ outdoor pool with two hot tubs

After a day of skiing (or maybe even on a day you don’t ski!), soaking in one of the two outdoor hot tubs is a treat! It’s fun to hurry up and hop in and then enjoy the contrast between the hot water and cold air.

In the summer (and winter) the indoor/outdoor pool is a fun option, especially for kids. And on busy weekend nights, this pool area is hopping!

Excellent dining within walking distance

Not only are there several choices for eating located inside the Boyne Mountain Grand Lodge, but some of the BEST places to eat at Boyne Mountain are also just a short walk away.

Most of our visits begin with pizza from The Trophy Room Pub & Pizzeria, and when you stay at the Boyne Mountain Grand Lodge, it’s an easy walk to pick up that delicious pizza (and cheesy bread) to go and enjoy it relaxing in your room – it doesn’t even have time to get cold!

Forty Acres Tavern is another favorite apres ski spot that is just steps from the main lodge! Or if you don’t want to leave the building, head downstairs to grab a cold one from Everett’s – they’ll even sell you drinks to take back to your room – perfect for game nights.

Wide variety of room types

Finally, one of the best reasons to stay at the Boyne Mountain Grand Lodge is the wide variety of room types. There are over 200 regular hotel rooms (with a mini-fridge and microwave), along with a variety of 1,2, and even 3-bedroom suites. So, no matter what size your group is, the Mountain Grand Lodge can accommodate you!

Enjoying the balcony at the Mountain Grand Lodge

My favorite rooms have a balcony with a view of the mountain and a fireplace. It is lovely to sit out on the balcony on a warm summer evening with a beverage, or curled up on the couch by the fireplace with a good book in the winter. Perfection!

Which is better, Boyne Mountain or Boyne Highlands?

This is a tough one, and really a matter of personal preference. For skiing, honestly, both Boyne Mountain and Boyne Highlands are fantastic. Boyne Highlands is a little further north, so for me, the slightly shorter drive to Boyne Mountain keeps me coming back.

Both mountains have great restaurants, lovely amenities, and plenty to do, but Boyne Mountain has a “bit’ more of a ski village feel to it, and it does have Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark if that is something you want to enjoy.

How far is Boyne Mountain from Boyne Highlands?

The two mountains are not that far about – and you’ll drive through the charming town of Petoskey to get from Boyne Mountain to Boyne Highlands. Depending upon traffic, it’s about forty minutes between resorts (give or take a few).

If you purchase a multi-day ski pass, it is good at both mountains, so you could always check them both out on the same trip!

Is Boyne Mountain good for beginners?

Boyne Mountain is a fantastic place to learn to ski. There are plenty of green and easy blue runs, and you can take ski lessons if you’d like.

Both of my kiddos learned to ski at Boyne Mountain, and I really appreciated that you can pick up a pass JUST for the beginner area (and then upgrade later if you’d like). When they were toddlers, an hour or two on the bunny slopes was plenty of skiing.

Learning to ski at Boyne Mountain when staying at the Grand Mountain Lodge

Boyne Mountain is also great for beginners because there are very few spots on the mountain where you can’t find a green run to get to the bottom – it’s actually pretty hard to get into a situation where there isn’t an easy way down the hill!

What is there to do at Boyne Mountain Grand Lodge?

There is SO much to do at Boyne Mountain Grand Lodge. And every year, they add more fun activities.

In the lodge, itself is of course the fitness room, indoor/outdoor pool, spa, indoor water park, restaurants, library, a roaring fireplace, and more. PLUS, there are fun weekly activities like cookies, s’mores outside, lawn games in the summer, wagon rides, movies, storytime, and more.

Outside of the lodge, you’ll find seasonal activities like skiing, snow tubing, hiking, golf, kayaking, paintball, ziplining, disc golf, tennis, and more. The list goes on and on. You’ll have to try pretty hard to not have something fun to do! We’ve spent weekends visiting where we don’t ever leave the resort!

When was Boyne Mountain Grand Lodge built?

The Boyne Mountain Grand Lodge and Spa opened in 2005, and they have been making updates and improvements ever since. In fact, rumor has it that there will be a pretty big update in the near future!
