It’s been a blah few weeks weatherwise. Add to that a busy high school swim and speech team schedule and loads of homework and I could tell my daughter was dragging. How can that be fixed? By creating an adventure!

Although I’d love to do something really exciting like the winner of the Albuquerque International Hot Air Balloon Festival contest will get to do, for the time I had allotted, we’d have to do something much simpler!

Even though a hot air balloon trip was out of the picture for our afternoon adventure, I headed over to Kroger to pick up one of our favorite go-to adventure drinks – DASANI Sparkling water (berry and raspberry lemonade for us, although there are 14 delicious flavors to choose from such as pear kiwi, black cherry, lime, blood orange, and many others), grabbed a cooler and we took off.

 

As it was just the girls, we felt that shopping and pampering was our best bet. I pointed the car towards Carmel, Indiana and off we went.

Carmel has an adorable downtown – there is really no other way to describe it. With a variety of fun shops and restaurants, it’s an enjoyable way to spend a few hours shopping.

In addition, there are so many entertaining photo ops thanks to more than a dozen life-size bronze scupltures by J. Seward Johnson Jr. Interestingly enough, he is the grandson of the founder of Johnson & Johnson.

A few of our favorite stops on Main Street include the Oil Mill (I always stock up on flavored balsamic vinegar to perk up our salads), Silver in the City (the best gift shop ever) and the always interesting antique shop.  We also ventured off Main Street to enjoy a short walk along the Monon Trail – it’s a wonderful pedestrian and biking trail that runs through most of Hamilton County down to Indianapolis.

Once we had shopped til we dropped, it was time for the pampering portion of the afternoon. My poor feet have been cooped up in boots for the last few weeks, so a pedicure felt like the perfect splurge. Sitting in the chair, enjoying a relaxing foot massage and sipping on an ice-cold DASANI Sparkling. Heaven.
