Are you planning a trip to Detroit, Michigan? Thanks to travel soccer, we’ve been there (or at least the suburbs of Detroit) quite a few times over the last few years, and on our last trip, I found the hotel I plan on booking for ALL our future trips.

The Daxton Hotel.

Hilton is the brand you’ll find the Daxton under, and since I’m a Hilton Diamond member (with a free night certificate every year), thanks to my Hilton Aspire card, we stayed at The Daxton Hotel for FREE last time.

Pam’s Insider Tip: Want to learn more about my favorite Hilton credit card? Between the Diamond status, annual free night certificate, $200 airline credit, and $400 Hilton Resort stay credit, it’s well worth the annual fee! Send me an email or DM, and I’ll gladly share more!

The Daxton is located in Birmingham, MI, a suburb of Detroit (and just a short drive into the city). Birmingham itself has a charming downtown with terrific shops and restaurants – all within walking distance of The Daxton.

I couldn’t find many Daxton Birmingham Michigan reviews, so I had to discover many of the benefits on my own. Lucky for you, I’m sharing all the details, so read on for all the details!

The Daxton Rooms

On my recent stay, I was in a standard 2-queen bedroom, and it was lovely. The beds were plush and so comfy – talk about a great night’s sleep. The room wasn’t large, but it had everything we needed and plenty of space for two people.

There was a mini-fridge and microwave, which is a must for me when I travel. I always bring a small cooler with water and drinks, plus I often find myself with leftovers. At the Daxton, not only did we have a fridge, but they also stocked it with a few bottles of water (free!) for us.

The bathroom was nicely set up with plenty of sink space for getting ready in the morning, and the shower had the perfect pressure and water temperature. I also appreciated the little amenities (even chapstick!) as I like to pack light and don’t typically bring my own shampoo, lotion, etc.

Do you like to lounge around your hotel room in a robe? Well, there were two comfy ones in the closet we could use during our stay.

Steak and eggs with potatoes and greens from the Daxton Hotel Restaurant

The Daxton Hotel Restaurant

As part of my Hilton status, we got a $30 credit on food and drinks. Although we had initially planned on ordering dessert from room service, we were still so full after dinner that we decided to spend it on breakfast in the Daxton Hotel Restaurant the following day.

It was an excellent choice! My son indulged in the steak and eggs while I customized an omelet with spinach and wild mushrooms. So good! And with a weird game time, it was enough food to keep full until after he played mid-afternoon.

The Daxton Gym

As a huge fitness fiend, a great gym is important to my son. I’m happy with a good treadmill and some lightweight dumbells. The Daxton’s gym was perfect for both of us. He enjoyed using the cable machine and dumbells while I spent my gym time on the treadmill.

It was spotless and had extras like fresh fruit, water, fluffy towels, and plenty of mirrors. We used it both days of our stay – instead of finding a local gym like we often do when we travel and buying a day pass.

Extras we loved at The Daxton

With a comfy room, excellent gym, and convenient location, the Daxton checked off everything I need in a hotel, but the extras make it stand out!

In the morning, there was fresh coffee at the bar – and as a coffee snob, I can verify that it was good coffee. Are you not a coffee fan? Every floor had a kitchen area with hot water and various tea bags. PLUS, in the kitchen area were snacks like chips, fresh fruit, pastries, and a fridge full of sodas and water. What a nice touch.

Just like another one of my favorite hotels (The Bradley in Fort Wayne, Indiana), the Daxton had bikes you could borrow and a really comfortable lobby. I especially liked the cozy couches and the eclectic art to admire.

If you enjoy a good cocktail, the bar was hopping when we arrived on Friday night. It really seemed to be the place to be in Birmingham! Plus, with the geometric dome covering it, it had a very hip and cool atmosphere.

Fun Things to Do Near The Daxton Hotel in Birmingham

As I mentioned, we were in town for soccer but still found fun ways to spend our downtime. There were quite a few excellent and unique shops and restaurants right around the hotel, so in the morning, after breakfast, we bundled up (it was cold) and took off on foot to explore.

There is a small local museum and several parks and golf courses nearby. Plus, Birmingham is conveniently located in several other suburbs of Detroit (such as Auburn Hills, Bloomfield, and Southfield). We spent one evening exploring the town of Plymouth, and as it was near the holidays, it felt like we were walking through a Hallmark movie!

If small towns aren’t your thing, the Daxton is a short drive to the city, so if you prefer to explore Detroit, I would still consider it a terrific home base. I’ve got my eye on this highly-rated cultural tour the next time we visit!
