Bowling and Dinner – Splitsville Style!
A big thanks to Splitsville for hosting our bowling and dinner! All opinions and pictures are my own.
By now, you know I love doing more than just going out to dinner, so bowling and dinner was a great choice! On our latest trip to Disney, we discovered the PERFECT break in the day and way to escape the heat – a visit to Splitsville in Disney Springs.
If you’ve ever visited Disney in the summer, it’s hot. I mean REALLY hot. However, for families with kids, sometimes summer is the only option for a Disney vacation. If that’s your situation, taking a break in the afternoon to visit Splitsville will turn an exhausting day into a fantastic memory.
For several years now, we’ve walked by Splitsville and talked about how fun it would be to check it out. We even walked in one year and looked around but didn’t take the time to stop and play. What a mistake!
Insider tip: We learned from the manager, Don, that Splitsville actually has a few other locations, so even if you aren’t visiting Orlando, you can visit a Splitsville. Current locations include Anaheim, CA, Foxborough, MA, Fredericksburg, VA, Miami, FL and Tampa, FL.
Splitsville isn’t just bowling, it’s also great food, live entertainment, and good old-fashioned family fun. On our recent visit, we spent several hours bowling, laughing and enjoying an early dinner.
Although you don’t have to bowl to visit Splitsville (you can just enjoy dinner or drinks there), it really is a fun family activity. As soon as you walk in, you’ll be greeted at the front counter by a friendly face ready to help set you up with a lane. Bowling is paid for per person, and there are numerous specials such as early morning pricing, Disney Vacation Club deals, etc. so be sure to check those out online or at the counter before you book your time. Shoes are included and they will grab whatever sizes you need, put them in a basket and then carry them to your lane for you.
At your lane, you’ll find plenty of seating, and color-coded balls (by weight). The size you need isn’t there? No need to worry, just go grab your perfect ball and bring it to your lane.
When we visited, we had spent the morning at the Magic Kingdom so we were hot and hungry. Each lane has a server assigned, and ours was super attentive. We asked Braendon what the best menu items were (something we often do when dining out), and he steered us to the best option in each category. I loved all the variety available at Splitsville. Traditional bar appetizers? Check. Pizza? Check. Burgers? Check. Sushi? Entrees? Fun mixed drinks? Check, check, check! Truly something for everyone.
As our group loves to share, we decided to order a variety of Braendon’s suggestions and try them all. We started with two of the fun drinks – the Spicy Mango Margarita (delicious) and the Watermelon Smash. I love a good spicy margarita and this one did not disappoint. My SIL enjoyed the watermelon drink and stated that after being outside in 95+ degree weather all morning, it was the perfect refreshing treat.
We also ordered the nachos (with the meat on the side to satisfy my pescatarian daughter), two different sushi rolls (Spicy Tuna and California Crunch) and their specialty burger, the Foghorn. Oh. My. Goodness. Everything was tasty. Nachos are the perfect dish to share and the serving was so large we couldn’t quite finish them. The kids gobbled up the sushi rolls – the rest of us were lucky to get a bite! The sushi was fresh and the rolls very creative. I was a little apprehensive about the burger as I’d never had one with an egg before but I’m SO glad we listened to Braendon. The Foghorn had pepper jack cheese, fried jalapenos, and delicious sriracha and cilantro lime sauce. It was amazing, the flavors blended together perfectly. Definitely, a winner if you like a good burger.
After all that yummy food, we were only able to split one dessert but it was a great one – we shared the Ghiradelli Brownie a la Mode. Imagine a moist, rich chocolate brownie covered with vanilla ice cream, decadent chocolate sauce fresh whipped cream and sprinkles. A few bites were the perfect end to dinner!
In addition to bowling, Splitsville offers pool tables, numerous areas to sit and enjoy dinner and a great outside bar area with frequent live music. I could totally envision sitting outside on a cooler evening having a few drinks and listening to music.
Insider tip: We had five in our group, so bowling while eating wasn’t an issue – we were able to bowl two games in our allotted time, but if you have a small group or don’t want to be distracted from your game, you might consider eating first in one of the restaurant areas and then just enjoying drinks while you bowl.
