19 Fun Things to Do in Boyne Falls Michigan
1. Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark
No matter what time of the year, a visit to Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark should be at the top of the list of fun things to do in Boyne Falls Michigan. Rain or shine, this spot is a hit with families, and here’s why: It’s Michigan’s largest indoor waterpark, which means more room for fun and a wide range of activities that cater to both the little ones and the grown-ups.
From the excitement of the big slides that twist and turn to the relaxing lazy river, your whole family will have a blast. There is even a surf-simulator which is always a huge hit with the teens. And if you visit in the winter, nothing feels better after a day of skiing than a long soak in one of the two hot tubs!

2. Zipline Adventure
If you’re the type who gets a kick out of soaring through the air with a bird’s-eye view, then you’ve got to try the Zipline Adventure at Boyne Mountain. It’s not just a zipline, it’s a whole journey that takes you across various lines that zigzag through the forest canopy and over the ski hills, giving you a mix of adrenaline and scenic beauty that’s hard to beat.
We’ve done ziplines before and really enjoyed them, but one of the things I love about the Zipline Adventure is Boyne is that we are crossing the ski slopes – and since we ski there every year it’s fun to see the runs from a different perspective.
3. Play a round of golf at the Monument or the Alpine Golf Course
If you are visiting Boyne Falls in the summer, a round of golf at either of the courses at Boyne Falls is an excellent way to spend a morning. The Monument has holes that are dedicated to big names in golf, while the Alpine hosts the annual Michigan Tournament of Champions.
We try to plan at least one trip in the summer that is dedicated to playing golf. Honestly, I tend to work on those days, but my son really loves golf, so he gets a ton of enjoyment from playing. For both courses, you play down the mountain so the views are beautiful and it’s fun to see the ski slopes in a different way.
4. Disc golf down the mountain
One of our favorite things to do in Boyne Falls MI in the summer is to play disc golf down the mountain. My son and his buddies love this! They enjoy taking the lift to the top and then working their way down the course. Some years on our Labor Day visits they will play every day!
You can bring your own discs or borrow a set from the Adventure Center at Boyne Mountain. Currently, if you are staying onsite, it’s free to use theirs. Even if you’ve never played disc golf before, it’s a terrific way to enjoy being outside and getting a little easy exercise.
5. Take a lift ride and enjoy a drink at the Eagle’s Nest
If you want a more relaxing adventure while looking for Boyne Falls MI things to do, take the ski lift to the top of the Mountain at Boyne Mountain and enjoy a drink at the Eagle’s Nest.
In the winter we always stop at the Eagles Nest for a drink and a break during a day of skiing, and in the summer we’ll take the chair lift to the top, grab a drink, and enjoy the view. It’s especially lovely in the evening when the sun is about to set.
6. Get rowdy with a paintball war
Another one of my son’s favorite summer activities in Boyne Falls is to engage in a big paintball war with his buddies. Boyne Mountain Resort has a fun little paintball area set up in the wooded area behind the tennis courts.
I don’t get the appeal, but teenage boys seem to love to pelt each other with paintballs. They had a blast the last time they engaged in this activity. The friendly staff member running the paintball course was terrific. He suggested a variety of “games” they could play, kept the paintball guns working and loaded, and helped them have a fantastic time.
I got some hilarious footage, but then have to admit that I headed over to Boyne Valley Vineyards for a relaxing glass of wine while they finished their two-hour session.
7. Enjoy a hike at Boyne Mountain Resort
Now although I may not love paintball myself, I do love hiking, and hiking is one of the best free things to do in Boyne Falls MI. Of course, you can hike all around the Boyne Mountain Resort, and if you are staying on property, the lift is free, so you can eliminate the hard work of hiking uphill, take the lift to the top, and then hike back down the mountain.
The trails are well-marked and easy to follow with gorgeous views. Plus, if you prefer, there are several paved trails to make your hiking more accessible and a bit easier on your legs if you forgot to pack hiking shoes!
8. Relax with a glass of wine at Boyne Valley Vineyards
It’s always fun to spend a day exploring the wineries along the Petoskey Wine Trail, and my favorite of them is Boyne Valley Vineyards. Located quite close to Boyne Fall, it’s the perfect way to spend a relaxing hour or so.
There is ample indoor and outdoor seating and the winery has fun events year round. In the summer there is often live music and they throw open the doors, while in the winter you can snowshoe the nearby trails. Year-round fun!
Although I’ve done wine tastings there several times, I always come back to (and bring home a bottle or two) of the Cayuga White. It’s delicious.

9. Kayak or paddleboard at Deer Lake
Ah, Deer Lake—now this is a gem in Boyne Falls you don’t wanna miss when you visit in the summer. Rent a kayak or paddleboard and head out into the calm waters, where the only sounds you hear are the gentle splash of your oar and the distant laughter of families enjoying the beach.
It’s peaceful, it’s beautiful, and it feels like you’re in your own little world. Whether you’re kayaking or paddleboarding, the lake’s serene environment makes it easy to unwind. The lake is so crystal-clear, that you can often see the sandy bottom. It’s an awesome way to spend a morning or afternoon, just taking in the natural beauty around you while getting a bit of light exercise.
10. Ride a bike to nearby Boyne City for shopping & dinner
If you are driving to Boyne Falls, consider bringing your bikes along for the trip, or rent them at the activity center at Boyne Mountain Resort. There is a paved bike trail that will take you all the way to Boyne City (an easy six-ish miles).
I love getting a delicious coffee at Lake Charlevoix Coffee Company and strolling the shops of Boyne City, or indulging in a delicious dinner or drinks at one of the fabulous restaurants. Then, you can just hop on your bike and take off for your next adventure!

The Boyne Solace Spa is the perfect way to add a touch of luxury to your Boyne Falls trip. Trust me, it’s worth every penny for that level of zen.

12. Face your fears by crossing SkyBridge Michigan
One of the newest additions to the Boyne Mountain Resort is SkyBridge Michigan. If you want to experience something truly unique, this is one activity you need to add to your list of Boyne Falls Michigan things to do.
Imagine walking high above the treetops, on a bridge suspended between two peaks. The views are absolutely jaw-dropping, offering a panoramic look at the surrounding natural beauty. It’s a bit of an adrenaline rush (especially the glass blocks in the center), but totally safe and fun for the whole family.
You get to see the mountain and forest from an entirely new perspective, and let me tell you, it’s a photo-op you won’t want to miss. The resort also hosts frequent events at the SkyBridge, the most recent being a series called Strings in the Sky with string concerts every day over the Labor Day weekend at the end of the SkyBridge, a food truck, lawn games, and more. It was absolutely magical!

Don’t forget to check the local regulations and seasons, and maybe even hire a local guide to show you the best spots. All in all, it’s a fabulous way to spend a morning or an entire day.
15. Challenge your family to a skeeball tournament
Ready for some good old-fashioned family fun? The arcade connected to the Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark has plenty of fun games, including my favorite, skeeball.
If we are looking for a fun and laid-back family activity in the evening, I’ll challenge the group to a skeeball tournament. We all load up a game card and play four or five games to see who can get the top score (and bragging rights).
Even little kids can play skeeball, and this is also a fun activity no matter what the weather, so you don’t have to limit it to a certain season.

We always try to enjoy at least one big breakfast at Betty’s, it’s a great way to fuel up for the day. Be prepared to wait a bit though as we aren’t the only ones who love this Boyne Falls tradition.
