Create your own holiday!

Looking for something fun to do with your kids?  And enjoy the fall season?  I don’t know about your family, but all I have to do is say “holiday” and they are in!  Not only is creating your own holiday fun, but it also helps create those wonderful family traditions that increase your family’s happiness and cohesiveness.  Creating family traditions is just one example!

Ready to try it?  Here’s what we do in the fall . . .

Pumpkin Day!

There are two family holidays we enjoy each fall – one is apple day and one is pumpkin day.  Very creative names aren’t they?  They date back to when my daughter was quite little and I was looking for ways for us to enjoy some of my favorite fall activities together.   She was also at that stage where it was fun to learn extensively about one thing, and anything with a theme was sure to be a good time!

One morning, when she woke up, I had pumpkin pancakes waiting and declared it to be Pumpkin Day!  We spent the day learning about (and enjoying) all things pumpkin.  Pumpkin pancakes for breakfast, a pumpkin craft in the morning, books all about pumpkins after lunch, pumpkin muffins for a snack, a trip to pick out a pumpkin, pumpkin pie with dinner, and carving a pumpkin at night.  It was such a fun success that I repeated it the next year.  Now, it’s a family tradition and my kids ASK me about it as soon as the weather starts to feel like fall

Helpful tipOur Pumpkin Day doesn’t actually have a date associated with it – the actual day varies based upon our calendar.

They enjoyed Pumpkin Day so much that a few years ago we created Apple Day – I’m sure you can imagine the kinds of activities we do!

Reach your goals!

Give it a try – you don’t have to base your family holiday on food – just come up with something fun for your family and do it annually – the memories are priceless!
