December 2014 Book Review

My favorite books from December 2014 – keep your eyes open for my Top 10 books for 2014 review soon!

A short month of reading – between holiday outings, lots of work and getting sick, I didn’t read as much as I’d like.  However, there were a few good ones this month.  (Everything I read this month can be found HERE).

Everyone Is Beautiful: A Novel by Katherine Center was a delightful novel.  Lanie was a fun and very relatable main character.  She is a busy mom of three young boys – trying to make it through each day and find herself again after getting lost in the chaos of motherhood.  I really liked that Lanie is kind to herself while still trying to make improvements.  I also loved the other characters in the book.  The story was fun, entertaining and enjoyable.  My rating 4 out of 5.

Sycamore Row (The Jake Brigance).  It’s been a while since I have read a John Grisham novel, and it was fun to re-visit his writing.  If you like a legal thriller, or perhaps have read early John Grisham novels, this one won’t disappoint.   Jake Brigance is a small town lawyer still recovering from a stressful (and dangerous) trial he won a few years ago.  Thanks to a handwritten will sent to him in the mail, he finds himself at the center of the largest will contest the town has ever seen – and most unusual as the new will doesn’t make sense to any of the participants.  The story is nicely tied up at the end and getting to that point is fascinating.  My rating 4 out of 5.

What books have you enjoyed lately?  I just picked up a few new ones at the library, so will hopefully have some more good ones to share next month!
