Our last day in Franklin started with a lovely early morning walk around the downtown and Franklin College (which borders downtown).
It was interesting to check out the town while most everything was still closed – we got a chance to really enjoy the architecture and beauty of the old buildings and the courthouse.
Knowing that the day was going to be HOT, we drove over to a local park to play a round of Frisbee Golf. This park is very well-maintained and in addition to a great (but challenging), disc golf course offered walking trails, wetlands, playgrounds and basketball courts. It would be a great place for a picnic or to just spend a fun afternoon.
We ventured back to Downtown Franklin for lunch and ended up at Shale Creek Brewery. Not only was it charming inside, but both the food and drinks were reasonable and delicious. The menu wasn’t large, but it contained a good burger, tenderloin, several salads and some mac & cheese dishes. In addition to their own beers, a full bar was available along with some fun drinks created using Shale Creek beer.
Before heading home, we knew we had to make one last stop at the local candy/ ice cream store. Hoosier Cupboard is located just past the train tracks alongside the main road heading out of downtown Franklin. There are a few cute antique stores nearby, and in addition to lots of candy, it houses a small railroad museum. We stocked up on goodies that you can’t find just anywhere and checked out the museum which was quite interesting.
Franklin, IN was the perfect last little getaway for us this summer. With school now in full swing and sports every weekend, our everyday adventures will need to be close to home. If you get the chance to visit Franklin, IN be sure to check out the fun places we visited – you won’t be sorry!
