Ready to make some fresh guacamole? We LOVE guacamole in our house (otherwise known as “green candy”).  We love it so much that I make it three or four times a week.  It’s a rare week we don’t have avocados on the counter ready to go. 

This guacamole recipe is so simple and so delicious that I’ll often make it to enjoy with dinner, for our after-school snack, lunch, heck I even make it in the condo or hotel kitchen when we travel.  Get out your ingredients and you’ll be eating it in less than five minutes.  Ready for some green candy?

Fresh Guacamole

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 T. red onion, chopped
  • 1 lime
  • sea salt
  • freshly cracked pepper
  • cumin
  • jalapeno (optional)
  • cilantro (optional)

Step One

Cut your avocado in half, scoop out the flesh, and put it in a small bowl. You can use one of these fancy mortar and pestle sets, or be lazy like me and use a glass bowl and a spoon!

Step Two

Add garlic, onion, jalapeno, and cilantro, and squeeze lime into a bowl over the avocado. The lime adds a burst of freshness to the guacamole and keeps it from browning as quickly.

Step Three

Sprinkle a bit of cumin, sea salt, and cracked pepper on top.  Mash well with a spoon.

Step Four

Taste and add more seasonings if you desire. If you like it spicy, feel free to add more jalapeno or onion.

At this point, you can transfer it to a pretty (or fun) serving bowl, or just eat it from the dish you mixed it in!
