Wow is Easter early this year! I feel like the holidays are just rushing into each other without slowing down.
Luckily we still have a week to get things together.
Easter is another one of those notorious CANDY holidays. I have nothing against a little candy now and then, but it really bothers me how much marketing focuses on loading our kids up with it at every opportunity. So, here are a few healthier ways to celebrate Easter.
2. We love the Easter Egg hunt in our household. And, it can certainly be a physical activity. If it’s warm enough, hide those eggs outside and encourage your kids to run all over the backyard. They will have a blast and get some fresh air at the same time. Think about hiding things other than candy too – bubbles and sidewalk chalk (encourage more outside fun), small toys, even put spare change into those plastic eggs!
3. Color some farm fresh eggs and then make yourself a batch of healthy and filling deviled eggs – or just use the eggs as snacks and breakfasts in the next week! What a great healthy snack to have on hand.
4. Enjoy a little candy, but keep an eye on the ingredients. Luckily these days we can find plenty of choices without dyes, high fructose corn syrup and other additives. Fair Trade Organic chocolate, natural jelly beans and maybe add in some fresh carrots – those are bunnies favorites, right?
5. How about some Easter crafts? If you have kids they will enjoy this and it helps take the focus off of candy. You could decorate paper eggs with stickers and markers, or go to Pinterest and see what you can find. Even dyeing eggs is fun. I found a great deal at Williams Sonoma on their natural dye kits – only $4.99 and use the code FREESHIP for free shipping!
Whatever you do, enjoy the holiday and the time with your family!
