Start at the beach!
Any trip to the beach needs to include some serious beach time. Through the years we’ve found that if we get out there early, we enjoy a less crowded beach, have plenty of space to set up, AND get plenty of beach time while still leaving the late afternoons and evenings for other fun activities.
Although I can’t quite make a 5:30 sunrise, I do like to get out there by 6:30 or 7 for a long walk before waking up the kids. Just grab a coffee and head straight out. By the time you’ve walked a while, you’ll be ready to relax and the day will be warming up.
After heading up to the room to pack up a beach bag for the day, get back out to the beach, and grab a spot. I like to set up a beach blanket (this one we purchased from Amazon is fantastic) and bring a cooler of drinks for later.
A few hours of playing in the ocean (bring along a boogie board for maximum fun), laying in the sun, and digging in the sand are the perfect starts to the day. Usually, we’ll stop by the hotel pool for another hour after the beach to throw a ball around and read a bit until heading up to the room.

Explore Barefoot Landing
After a quick bite to eat in the room (don’t fill up as I’ve got delicious dinner plans for you), head over to Barefoot Landing to explore.
Barefoot Landing is a very well-done shopping and entertainment center. It’s definitely not your typical mall. If you love breweries, park by Crooked Hammock Brewery and pick up a beer to enjoy as you check out the rest of the area.
Kids LOVE the trampolines, carousel, and train. Or you can have fun with cornhole, large-size checkers, or other fun outdoor games. Even just grabbing some of the complementary chairs and sipping your drink while people watching and listening to music is fun!
As for shopping, there is an interesting variety of unique shops running the gamut from a store where everything is purple to spice shops and more. It’s always fun to poke around shops like these to see what you’ll discover.
Enjoy fresh seafood at Happy Hour
We found that Myrtle Beach is the LAND of Happy Hours. It seemed like every restaurant we visited had a terrific happy hour sometime between 4 and 7. Although we tried a few, I’d highly recommend stopping at Buoys on the Boulevard to indulge in their version.
With inexpensive drinks, delicious and affordable sushi, and amazing peel-and-eat shrimp, you really can’t go wrong with this place for your dinner. We actually loved the peel and eat shrimp so much that we ate there twice – something we have NEVER done on vacation before. Plus, the atmosphere is fun and casual and Thurs/Fri/Sat they have live music.
Even if this particular restaurant isn’t near where you are staying, I’m positive you can find a fun and delicious happy hour to kick off your evening.

Have fun with Myrtle Beach nightlife
We found the main street in North Myrtle Beach to be ideal for spending an hour or so after dinner. There were a few cute shops, delicious ice cream at Melt, and amazing people-watching all along the strip.
On one of the nights we visited, a live band was playing and the street was PACKED with golf carts. I’ve never seen so many in one spot. We grabbed a picnic table, a couple of sodas, and a basket of fries and had fun listening to the music and watching the crowd.
End the evening with a walk on the beach
Just before heading back to the room for the night, take some time to walk the beach again. Myrtle Beach has wonderful soft sand which makes an evening walk super enjoyable.
Plus, there is just something so soothing about listening to the waves crash on the beach and seeing the white caps when it’s dark out. So, spend a little time before bed enjoying nature and ending your perfect day in Myrtle Beach on a calm and relaxing note.
