Peter Pan – Chicago Shakespeare Theater
UPDATE: Obviously Peter Pan isn’t running anymore (this post was in 2018), but Chicago Shakespeare Theater will have plenty of other wonderful shows throughout the year, so check on their website to see what is currently playing!
This summer, Chicago Shakespeare Theater is doing a production of Peter Pan. Located right in the heart of Navy Pier (very convenient for tourists and locals alike), there are two shows a day: 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
We enjoyed the opening day of production – and what an amazing show it was. There was so much talent on the stage and so much energy.
The plot follows the traditional J.M. Barrie version quite closely, which as huge Peter Pan fans, we love.
The theatre itself is gorgeous. Although it holds quite a few people, it feels very intimate. I doubt there is a bad seat in the house.
This particular show is perfect for a younger audience. My kids are tween/teenage and they loved it, but the story is so engaging and such a childhood classic that kids as young as 5 or 6 would probably enjoy it. Fantastic for the whole family.
I loved the way they had the actors flying around the stage – looked like so much fun!
Captain Hook was fantastic. The actor nailed the role.
Do yourself a favor and take your family to this show – it runs through August 19th.

Thanks to Chicago Shakespeare Theater for hosting us at the show – we loved every minute of it. The opinions expressed are all my own.
This looks like an awesome play and a beautiful theatre. I will definitely check out that theatre the next time I visit Chicago.
Me too – we are already talking about trying to catch an actual Shakespeare production (at least my daughter and I are – we are the real theater buffs in the family!).
I love small theaters as they are more intimate. We try to get our kids to shows in the Baltimore area as well.
Agreed! Small theaters are the BEST!
I am always amazed by the costumes and the wonderful acting. Peter Pan is only of my favorite stories.
Missy – I know, those are some of my favorite parts also. The costumes in this one were beautiful!
I’ve never been to Chicago but looks like their shows are pretty fantastic!
It was – and they do a nice variety each year – along with Shakespeare in the Park in the summer.
We love PeterPan, I am sure this is an amazing show!
Yep, it was great!
The set looks beautiful and I loved your video! That makes me wanna go to the theater and take the kids with me!
It’s so good for them to be exposed early and this is an easy first show – not too long, entertaining and totally child friendly.
I love a good show! Peter Pan can be so delightful in the theatre.
Yes, I’ve seen Return to Neverland, but I’ve never actually seen Peter Pan – it was great!
Awww…I would love to see this. I think the kids would too. I have one child who is really into acting, so she would really be into this.
It would be great as there were a few children on stage too!
This show looks amazing! What a fun time!
Oh, I LOVE plays! I would totally go see it if we were closer. 🙂 Great review!
Thanks! If you ever get to Chicago, check out the theater – I’m sure they will have something great showing!
It looks like a great production! I’m sure my oldest little one would love to see it!
It was such a great show – they did an amazing job.
