A beach day is always a fun day, right? While we love the beach, I hate to admit that my skin can’t handle a full day of the sun anymore. So, on our last beach vacation to Pompano Beach, Florida we created a few fun days with both the beach and other things to do.

Start the day with breakfast
Most beach towns have a local coffee or bagel shop and Pompano is no different. Depending upon where your accommodations are located find the one closest to you and grab a bagel and coffee to start your day.
We were lucky enough to be just a fifteen-minute walk from a wonderful bagel shop right on A1A. So most mornings started with a coffee from the room and then a delicious buttery bagel!
Spend time at the beach
If you are visiting Pompano Beach, I’m sure spending time by the ocean is high on your list of things to do. It’s the beach, right? So go for it.
Lather up with sunscreen and get out earlier in the day. If you can start your day fairly early, you can still have plenty of beach time yet avoid the afternoon’s hottest part.
Be sure to use plenty of sunscreen, grab a hat, pack a cooler full of drinks and a good book, and relax in the warm sunshine! We also like to bring a few beach games and boogie boards to enjoy the waves.
I’d suggest enjoying a light lunch on the beach – sandwiches are perfect for eating by the ocean!

Explore via water taxi
After a few hours of enjoying the beach, it’s time to get cleaned up and explore! When in the Pompano Beach area, our favorite way to explore is via water taxi.
Pompano is just north of Fort Lauderdale which is often called the “Venice of America” thanks to the many interconnected waterways, and a water taxi is the BEST way to explore them.
Purchase a one-day ticket and you can hop on and off at 11 different stops along the water taxi route. We like to start at stop 10 (closest to Pompano Beach), grab a few drinks at the restaurant located at this stop and take off exploring.
As you relax on the boat with your tropical drink, check out the gorgeous mansions and amazing yachts along the water. If you are lucky, you’ll get a captain who can share all the facts and informative tidbits about the homes you’ll see.
Be sure to stop at Las Olas at some point to check out the fun shopping and happy hours – it’s always a happening part of town.

Enjoy fresh seafood for dinner
One of the best parts of being along the oceanside is all the fresh seafood. I’d suggest hopping off while you are touring along the water taxi ride, or heading back to your car and hitting one of the many excellent spots for mouth-watering seafood.

End the day with a sweet treat
Pompano Beach is home to one of our favorite chocolate shops, Kilwins. Lucky for us, our condo was within walking distance so it became a frequent nighttime treat.
Near Kilwins is the Pompano Pier which is a great place to enjoy ocean views. Pelicans like the pier too (thanks to the fishermen), so you’ll be able to get some great photos.
If chocolate isn’t your thing, there are several yummy ice cream shops, so look for one of those and end your perfect day with a sweet treat.
