Summer 2021 Book Reviews

I didn’t read nearly as many books this summer as I usually do, but I did find some fantastic ones out of what I finished. Here are the best of the best!

Non-Fiction Books

Non Fiction Book Review

Well, I’m not loving that I had to review this book this month, but it IS a really great resource. The IBS Elimination Diet and Cookbook does a great job of explaining Low-FODMAP foods and why foods high in FODMAP might be triggering digestive issues. Since I love to eat out and explore new foods, I decided this is the year I need to get my health under control. So, I’m in the midst of the elimination time period to see if removing high FODMAP’s from my diet will help me feel great consistently. We shall see. The book does have a very easy meal plan that my whole family can follow, so as long as we eat mostly at home, it’s been pretty easy. Hopefully, it will all pan out! My rating is 4.5 out of 5.

Fiction Books

Great fiction book to read

One of my favorite benefits of Amazon Prime (aside from the quick shipping & easy returns), is the free monthly books. A Familiar Sight was a recent free book of the month for me and I REALLY enjoyed it. It was one of those books that I devoured in just a few days. The characters are interesting and quite different from most main characters. Dr. Gretchen White, a psychologist who assists with crime scenes is also a sociopath. It gives her a unique perspective to bring to investigations. When a case comes along that is eerily similar to her background, she is immediately drawn to it. My rating is 4.5 out of 5.

Book reviews

If you enjoy historical fiction or fiction based upon a real character, then you’ll find The Only Woman in the Room fascinating. Based upon the life of Hedy Lamarr, a Hollywood actress in the 40’s, you’ll learn that she used her wits to escape Germany during WWII and also created technology that forms the basis of some of the products we use today. Definitely an interesting life and a person I knew little about until I read this book. My rating is 4 out of 5.

Great book to read

A book full of twists and turns, Choose Me follows the death of Taryn Moore. As we move from the present day to the recent past, we slowly discover that her death may not be the apparent suicide the cops originally think it is. In fact, there are a number of viable suspects. Although Taryn isn’t particularly likable, the mystery behind her death is interesting to follow. My rating is 4 out of 5.

And that’s it. I did read a few other books, but these were definitely the best which is what I always like to share. Hopefully, fall will be better reading for me (although it’s not looking good so far!).
