For years, I thought I was. I thought that eating the low-fat yogurt, diet coke and microwave popcorn was the way to go.
It was low in calories and fat, right?
Boy was I wrong!!! Take a look at what is in the yogurt I used to eat:
Cultured Pasteurized Grade A Nonfat Milk, Modified Corn Starch, Sugar, Kosher Gelatin, Citric Acid, Natural Flavor, Aspartame, Postassium Sorbate added to maintain freshness, Acesulfame Potassium, Colored with Tumeric Extract, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D3.
The second two ingredients are SUGAR. And aside from those ingredients and milk, the rest aren’t even real food. I won’t even go into the diet coke and popcorn. SCARY STUFF people!
Looking back, it’s amazing to me that I didn’t suffer more than I did. Yes, I was skinny, but I didn’t feel that good much of the time.
Remember that saying “You are what you eat?” It’s so true. These days, thanks to what I eat, I feel GREAT!
Once I started learning more about proper nutrition, and spending time studying various theories and experimenting quite a bit, things fell into place.
Today, when I enjoy yogurt, this is the ingredient list:
Grade A Pasteurized Milk and Cream, Live Active Yogurt Cultures (L. Bulgaricus, S. Thermophilus, L. Acidophilus, Bifidus, L. Casei).
Much better – and live cultures to boot! I add some frozen blueberries, honey and homemade granola and I have a filling meal or snack – without all the fake stuff!
It can be a long and frustrating road to get from typical diet “wisdom” to eating real, healthy food. There are so many diet “experts” out there ready to steer you the wrong way. Plus, what works for one person isn’t always the best solution for another. And to get your family involved?
It feels overwhelming.
That’s where my latest program comes in. In just four fun and easy weeks, you’ll learn the basics of healthy eating – and how to get your family to join you. You’ll begin 2014 feeling healthier and happier.
We’re starting in January, so be ready!
